Jennifer Garner advises against marrying ‘a man thinking you can change him’

Two-time divorcée Jennifer Garner has some marriage advice to share.

When the actress was asked about her “favorite quote or mantra” in a recent episode of the “Lipstick on the Rim” podcast, she shared words of wisdom from her mom, Patricia Garner.

“Never expect a man — don’t marry a man thinking you can change him,” Jennifer, 52, told listeners on Nov. 12.

It is unclear whether the “Alias” alum’s subsequent joke that she needed “to work on that one” had to do with her past relationships or the way she stumbled over the quote.

Jennifer, who was previously married to Scott Foley from 2000 to 2004 and Ben Affleck from 2005 to 2018, went on to share more “vintage Pat Garner” sayings.

However, she noted that “they all come from Mrs. Ingalls from ‘Little House on the Prairie’ or ‘Anne of Green Gables’ or all of the above.”

Two of the “13 Going on 30” star’s favorites include, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning,” as well as, “Happiness is your own responsibility.”

Jennifer, who has been dating John Miller on and off since 2018, did not speak about either of her marriages during the episode.

She previously blamed the demise of her and Foley’s romance on Hollywood, musing that they “would probably still be together” if not for their “fast-lane life.”

As for her time with Affleck, Jennifer admitted to Vanity Fair in 2016 that her “Daredevil” co-star is a “complicated guy.”

She explained, “I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”

Although Jennifer did not elaborate on their decade together on “Lipstick on the Rim,” she did briefly mention her and Affleck’s kids.

She agreed when co-hosts Molly Sims and Emese Gormley praised Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, for being “resilient” and “amazing” children.

Two weeks after the episode dropped, the “Last Thing He Told Me” star and Affleck, also 52, were photographed spending Thanksgiving together.

The family of five spent the holiday serving meals with Midnight Mission to homeless people in Los Angeles.
