Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, has confusing reaction to Jay-Z rape lawsuit
The 70-year-old “liked” an Instagram post from ABC 7 Chicago News that announced the rapper had been sued for rape.
Page Six was able to verify that Knowles’ official Instagram account follows the page in question and “liked” the post.
Knowles’ rep has yet to respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Over the weekend, Jay-Z was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl — along with Sean “Diddy” Combs — at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
The music mogul, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, was named in a civil lawsuit that was re-filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee on Sunday, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
The original complaint, which had been filed by an anonymous accuser in October, had only listed Combs as a defendant.
The accuser, who is identified as Jane Doe, claimed she was given a drink that made her feel “woozy” and “lightheaded” before she went into a bedroom to lie down for a moment.
Shortly after, the two rappers allegedly entered the room with the Bad Boy Records founder saying, “You are ready to party!”
She claimed Jay-Z removed her clothes, held her down and raped her while Combs and an unidentified female celebrity watched. Combs allegedly also raped her as Jay-Z and the woman watched.
Although Knowles and her famous daughter, who wed Jay-Z in 2008, have remained quiet about the accusations, the record executive denied them in a statement shared with Page Six.
“My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee. What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle,” the Grammy winner, 55, wrote.
“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!” he continued. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”
Jay-Z added, “I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you I have seen your kind many times over. I’m more than prepared to deal with your type.”
The “Empire State of Mind” rapper also shared that his “only heartbreak” was for his wife, Beyoncé, and their three children: Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, 7.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people,” he wrote.
“I mourn yet another loss of innocence. Children should not have to endure such at their young age. It is unfair to have to try to understand inexplicable degrees of malice meant to destroy families and human spirit.”
Jay-Z also warned Buzbee that he had “made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same.”
“I’m not from your world,” he continued. “I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain.
“I look forward to showing you just how different I am,” he concluded.
Buzbee, in response, clapped back at Jay-Z’s “blackmail” allegation in a statement via X claiming that his client “never demanded a penny” and “only sought a confidential mediation.”
The attorney alleged, “Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff His conduct has had the opposite impact. She is emboldened.”
