Playing the long game paid off for Lady London.
While speaking with Revolt CEO Detavio Samuels on “The Blackprint” podcast, the Bronx, NY-born artist spoke candidly about her journey into securing revenue through brand partnerships. It all began by considering the brands she often used and researching what she needed to build relationships and land opportunities.
“I started YouTubing things like how are people reaching out to brands and figuring out like who’s their key point? Who handles talent? Who handles like brand partnerships within this thing? Reaching out to them with emails, forming a deck. Get your one-sheet or your EPK (Electronic Press Kit),” she explained on the podcast.
Lady London added, “Show all the things that make you a person on one thing, and send it off to brands and say, ‘Listen, I think you partnering with me would be a great mutually beneficial situation. I already use your brand. It won’t be inorganic. This is how I’ll market it like this. Maybe we can partner.’ And some things is not always monetary the first time. Sometimes you build relationships and you network for future bigger things.”
After working with that brand and receiving $1,500, the company returned recently to work with the artist once again, but this time with a much larger offer.
“I just recently did a brand partnership with them for over $60,000. So when we look at things, like, you just have to play the long game,” she explained.
