The Princess of Wales enjoyed a visit to the Lake District last month
In a new video, the Princess of Wales, 43, who is currently in remission from cancer, has reflected on how nature offers her a sense of “peace” and “reconnection” in a “very busy world”.

Kate Middleton gushes over nature in video from Lake District with Chief Scout Dwayne Fields
In the two-minute video, the princess is seen strolling near Lake Windermere in Cumbria last month.
She is joined by Chief Scout Dwayne Fields and a group of Scouts from Cumbria and Stretford, Greater Manchester. Scouting is a worldwide youth social movement. It is a programme that puts emphasisis on practical outdoor activities and provides young people with a variety of life skills.
Clad in a baker boy cap, casual jeans, walking boots and a bomber jacket, Kate speaks candidly about what being outdoors means to her – especially during the challenges of the past year.
“I find it a very spiritual and very intense emotional reconnection,” she mused about being out in nature. “Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature. But it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”
Kate’s message resonates even more powerfully in light of her recent health journey.
The mother-of-three has openly acknowledged that spending time in nature became her “sanctuary” amid the stress of her diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment.
It was the first time she had met Dwayne Fields, who became Chief Scout in September. Their shared appreciation for the outdoors led to a warm, heartfelt exchange.
Dwayne praised the princess, saying that having her as a joint president of Scouts is “great for the Scout Movement”.
“When you come out into a natural environment, it helps you understand yourself that much more,” Dwayne added.
“We really belong in nature. We’re in tune with it. And I think we need to come back to it because there is definitely something about being in nature that’s connected to our wellbeing.”

Kate and the Scouts
Kate has been joint president of the Scouts since 2020 and has long supported their mission. She praised the organisation for its enduring impact on young people.
“What’s so fantastic about the Scouts is that the same foundation has sort of always been there,” she said. “Despite how different the modern-day world is now, it still resonates with so many young people and it’s making such a massive difference to them.”
As part of the visit, Kate was seen interacting with children aged 10 to 15. She helped them read a map and asked about their hikes in the surrounding hills.
“It’s so beautiful because so many of the walks here, you can see Lake Windermere because it’s huge isn’t it?” she queried. “Look how hilly it is in here. Have you done any of these big mountains?”
Kate’s connection to the Scouts is personal as well as public. She became a Cub Scout volunteer when living in Anglesey with Prince William early in their marriage.
Kate has since participated in numerous Scout visits across the country.
In 2023, during King Charles’ coronation celebrations, the Wales family volunteered with a local Scout group in Slough.
Prince William and Kate’s kids George, 11, Charlotte, nine, and Louis, six, painted, shifted sand and toasted marshmallows.
According to reports, the Prince and Princess of Wales are enjoying an Easter break with their kids.
