Trump Hasn’t Spoken To Walz as DOJ Involved After Minn. Lawmaker Shootings

In the wake of the targeted assassinations of Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota, President Donald Trump has not made any attempts to contact Governor Tim Walz. During an interview with Rachel Scott from ABC News, Trump denounced the violence while labeling Walz as a “terrible” and “grossly incompetent” governor. He suggested that he might reach out to Walz or others, yet did not provide any definitive assurance. Despite the personal criticisms, Trump stated that the violence was intolerable and pledged federal participation in the investigation.
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed that both the Department of Justice and the FBI are currently engaged in the case. She described the attack as “targeted” and reassured the public that those responsible would face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino further noted that federal agents are collaborating closely with local and state officials on-site.
Public figures, including former NFL player Jack Brewer, have voiced their outrage regarding the situation in Minnesota, attributing the blame to Governor Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison for transforming the state into what he referred to as the “capital of chaos.” Brewer, who played for the Minnesota Vikings and the University of Minnesota, expressed his dismay over the decline of civility and the increase in violence in a state he once considered home.
Authorities have identified 57-year-old Vance Boelter as the individual suspected of the shootings. He is accused of murdering House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as State Senator John Hoffman and his wife. Boelter was apprehended following a two-day manhunt and is currently in custody, having reportedly surrendered to law enforcement in Sibley County.
Investigators discovered “No Kings” signs in Boelter’s vehicle, reflecting the theme of nationwide protests that occurred that same weekend against the Trump administration’s ICE operations.
