The Cast of “Pawn Stars” Continues Getting Into Trouble

Posted on November 24, 2024 by Admin Cambo
The reality TV show Pawn Stars is one of the most successful and memorable shows in recent history. Following the Harrison family and their beloved pawn shop World Famous Gold & Silver in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Over the years, viewers have fallen in love with the Harrisons and their associates, watching the hilarious antics that go down in the infamous shop but turns out behind the scenes things look different, way different.

From Chumlee being arrested to why Olivia Black was really fired from the show, let’s take a look at the wildest facts from behind the scenes of the hit show.

Humble Beginnings

Though we now know the Pawn Stars staffers as reality TV stars and bona fide celebs, don’t forget that World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop all started way back in 1989 as a genuine real-life family business. Because it was then that Richard “Old Man” Harrison first opened up the store, where it ran as a 24-hour family business.

Even though they are now superstars in their own right, Harrison, his son Rick, grandson Corey, and family friend Austin “Chumlee” Russell were originally just regular guys working the business—before hitting the big time with their TV show.

True Ambition

Even though he originally started up the pawn shop as simply a family business, the truth was that Old Man Harrison always knew that his store was a special place, and that it could in fact one day make them all famous.

And so it was actually years before the TV show ever started, that Harrison had been regularly pitching the idea of it to various networks. They kept saying no over and over again, until one network finally said yes—but even then it would be a while before they truly hit the big time.

Business Minded

As we discover the truth of Harrison’s ambitions to take his store to the world of TV, there’s also even more behind his decision to aim for fame.

It wasn’t just because he thought it would make a funny of popular show, but also because he thought it would make good business sense—to increase awareness of his pawn shop and hopefully attract more customers.

“I figured that a show would mean free publicity and free publicity would mean more business,” he said to the Star-Telegram.

Never Give Up

Even though Harrison was determined to make a success of his shop and the TV gold he knew it could produce, he also knew that the odds were against him. The more he tried to pitch the show, the more people continued to turn him down.

“Everyone told me that no one wants to watch a show about four fat guys in a pawnshop,” he said. Little did they know that one day the world would be transfixed by this very thing.

First Look

As the years went on, networks kept turning down Harrison’s idea for a TV show based on his pawn shop, but he never gave up on his idea.

We might know that Pawn Stars airs on History, but originally it had a very different home—two, in fact!

The shop first appeared on Comedy Central’s Insomniac, before being aired briefly on HBO. We bet you didn’t know that about its pre-History channel history.

Short Staffed

Even though the World Famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop has been made well known thanks to its stars the Harrisons and Chumlee, they don’t actually work in the shop! How can this be possible?

Well, they do actually work there for the purposes of the televised pawn deals, but it’s pretty separate and private from the regular customers.

The regular customers are actually served and sorted out by Travis Benton, who is basically the real-life store manager. Who’d have thunk it!

Saying Goodbye

While two of Rick Harrison’s children, Corey and Jake, have appeared on the show, his third child, Adam never made an appearance even though he worked at Gold & Silver Pawn. Sadly, we didn’t hear much about Adam until he made headlines in January 2024 after he passed away at the young age of 39.

“You will always be in my heart! I love you Adam,” Rick Harrison wrote on Instagram following his passing. “I will always love you bubba,” Adam’s older brother Corey Harrison wrote on his Instagram.

The Naked Truth

Another much loved star of the show is of course Olivia Black, who became and still remains incredibly popular with fans.

Controversy abounded when she was fired for posting some naughty pics on a modeling website, but the truth was very different.

Because did you know that while she was removed from the show, she actually was never fired as a shop employee? That’s right—she still worked there, the production company just stopped featuring her when they were filming.

One of the Family

The pawn shop is known as being the family business for the Harrison clan, but the most popular member of the cast is undoubtedly Austin “Chumlee” Russell—who is simply an honorary member of the family, but not actually related.

But did you know that Chumlee was actually up against a bunch of other employees to be the extra person on the show? It was Corey who made sure he got the gig, as he’s his best pal.

And the rest is history, as the fans love him!

Morrison Mirage

Many fans and viewers of Pawn Stars feel like they know the store pretty well, even if they haven’t actually managed to get there in person yet. And one of the most memorable and impressive items on show at the famous place is none other than the huge painting of Doors front man Jim Morrison.

But did you know that it was actually the work of famous speed artist Denny Dent? Not only that, but it was originally on sale for $20,000—but the stars later decided it was such an important part of the show, that it was not for sale.

Crank Collect

Seeing as the show has become so popular, we can imagine that more and more people have been getting in touch with the World-Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop over the years.

But we bet you didn’t think about how many people call the store not for actually legit reasons, but just for the fun of getting through, and hearing them answer! For that reason, they receive a huge number of prank calls—most often, with a joke request for a 1991 copy of the popular video game “Battletoads”!

Bachelor Bants

We know that Harrison persevered for years to get his beloved pawn shop translated into a TV show, and it was certainly his hard work that truly paid off. But did you know that it was also a total fluke that got the store its final bit of exposure that resulted in the TV deal?

That’s right—executives from Leftfield Pictures actually stumbled across the store while they were in town for a bachelor party, and that’s when they were inspired to show it to their bosses at the History Channel.

Side Kicks

The show has of course made bona fide celebs of all of its main stars, but sometimes it’s the lesser-seen background players that also gain a large fan following.

Other smaller figures but still very much loved to the show are Antoine, the huge security guard; Peaches, the perpetually tardy blonde employee; part-time flea market aficionado Scott; middle-age bearded Latino Audie, and ‘Fat Back’ the on-site mechanic. Each one of these guys make Pawn Stars the show we know and love today.

Chumlee’s Health Issues

In March 2020, as the world got into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chumlee has been hospitalized in Las Vegas due to severe abdominal pain and breathing troubles.

In the post sharing the news on Instagram, he joked that he might have contracted Coronavirus. Later that day, Chumlee updated his fans, saying he is feeling much better.
