Police have arrested a man believed to have shot and killed a 7-year-old boy on a tribal reservation in Colorado.

Jeremiah Hight, 23, was arrested on the afternoon of Dec. 24 atop a mesa west of Oljato, Utah, by the Navajo Police Department’s K-9 Unit and the Bureau of Indian Affairs drug enforcement division, according to a statement from the Navajo Police Department.

Hight was wanted on murder and gun-related charges in connection with the Dec. 11 fatal shooting of a minor, who was inside a home on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation, in Towaoc, Colo., according to the the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Federal officials issued a warrant for Hight’s arrest on Dec. 19 and offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to his capture.

Navajo police said they had been searching for Hight in the Oljato area since Dec. 21.

Further details regarding the shooting were not immediately furnished by authorities, except that it appeared to be “targeted at a residence,” the FBI said.

The child victim was identified on a GoFundMe campaign as 7-year-old Zamias Lang.

Zamias was remembered on the fundraising page as “a bright and loving” boy who was “taken from us far too soon.”

“He fell victim to senseless gun violence, leaving behind family, friends, and a community who loved him dearly,” reads the fundraiser, which had raised $26,000 for funeral costs as of the afternoon of Dec. 27.

It’s unclear if Hight has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
